I've just bought my first banjo. The first thing I noticed is the strings are very high compered to a guitar. I'd say the strings are approx 6/7mm about the 12th thret. Is trhis normal? Is it advisable to file the bridge down a little?

Karl, Your action is too high, and the neck needs to be reset to lower it, if the bridge is already at 1/2" (Lowest standard) This may be able to be remedied by a shim placed in behind the heel, and the tension hoop. If an .050 shim (Max) will not get it low enuf, that a true neck set must be performed. Vinnie
