I have a five-string banjo with open back. The neck and dowel seem to be one piece of cherry. It has violin type friction tuning pegs, no tone ring, the rim is black with metal clad. The dowel has stamped into the wood, "Frank Converse", and a short musical staff. Can anyone tell me the origin and value of this instrument?
