 Wurlitzer Tenor? Reply »

I recently acquired an open back Wurlitzer 4 string. I play a 5 string and don't have much idea of what this is. It has an 11" head and a flat tone ring that gives it an arch top head. The rim is thick and is maple and (walnut?) laminate. The banjo has 20 brackets and a grooved tension hoop. The neck is very short with just 17 frets. The head stock has a floral pattern abalone inlay. The finger board has a floral or something Mother of Pearl inlay pattern. The banjo is in very good shape. I'm thinking about converting it to a five string and keeping the original neck if I can do that without harming the banjo. The only logo is on the back of the neck attachment stick (square stick) it is an ivory colored tag that is riveted to the stick, It reads "Wurlitzer patent applied for." The rim and tone ring each have #88 stamped on them. Any info on this banjo would be appreciated.
