Epiphone Recording Alhambra banjo Reply »

I just bought a 4 string tenor banjo. It is an Epiphone recording Alhambra model in its original case. Can anyone tell me anything about it. I thought I was buying it as a gift for my husband, but found out he plays a 5 string. Not at all the same thing apparently. Anyway, does anyone know anything about this type of banjo and when is the earliest it could have been manufactured, as the case and the banjo both look very old - like 1905 to 1915 or so - is this possible. Any idea on possible worth? ANY info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Leslie

Epiphone was a major manufacturer of quality instruments in NYC from 1876 to 1957, so your instrument could be quite old. You can find info on both the four sstring banjo website and the five string website.

I'm very familiar with these banjos. Please e-mail me so we can discuss the Epiphone Alhambras. Check website www.bernunzio.com...then click on banjos/plectrum...you'll see two Alhambras listed, one of them is mine. It sells for $1750.
